To provide students of MBM 5703 & 5689 an opportunity to integrate mind, body, and spirit into the field of functional and integrative nutrition, instructor offers this optional, mid-week meditation in each module. A brief check-in and discussion conclude the mid-week meditation session.
Mind-body medicine focuses on the interactions between the mind and the body and the powerful ways in which you can participate in your own healing and health. Thoughts, feelings, beliefs and attitudes can influence and shape every aspect of your biological functioning, and how you care for your body can affect how you think and feel and what you believe. This means that you have many opportunities and can do many things to care for yourself. There are techniques and practices, some ancient and some recent that you can use to have an impact on your overall well-being. In this series of classes, you will investigate and discover some mind-body techniques as each class focuses on one particular mind-body technique. In each class, we’ll include a little bit of the science behind the technique to explain why and which conditions it might be used for. Then I will demonstrate the technique, giving you an experiential learning experience. The outcome is that you will be able to use each technique instantly in your daily life. Participating in different classes will expose you to many different mind-body techniques, helping you create an impressive array of mind-body techniques from which to pick and choose from to deal with stress, illness and life in general. Through the mastery of these mind-body techniques you might experience deeper relaxation, fewer physical symptoms of illness, less pain, less fatigue and more energy, enhanced immune system functioning. You probably will be able to more successfully deal with pain, chronic illness, stress, and anxiety, as well. Over time, you may experience greater self-awareness and more positive perceptions about your life.
