Empathy is a heart skill that promotes understanding, connection and community. This introductory class by educator and author David Levine, will explore the “energy” of empathy as the foundation for creating emotional safety, optimism and hope for the young people in our schools. Through storytelling, song and honorable reflection, David will guide participants to an increased awareness of self and others as they explore the life-changing practice of empathic intention.
This new workshop with Rick Jarow offers a depth exploration into exactly what this mysterious "economy" is: not merely in its external sense, but psychologically. What is really going on in this world transactional sphere, and what are the amazing opportunities this brings to us? Jarow specifies four empowering questions that allow you to interface consciously with the economy and introduces the "HEQ" (holostic energy quotient) to help manage the ongoing energy flows in our lives. The workshop introduces the two fundamental practices for staying grounded and clear during times of change, sixty four practices for abundance, slowing down, and focusing, and offers the healed "eco-vision' and "money meditation" to open the doorways of alignment and freedom into ever increasing openness, compassion, and true prosperity.

E.H. Rick Jarow, Ph.D. has transformed the way the world thinks about their work, purpose and vocation. As the pioneer of the anti-career movement and author of Creating the Work You Love, he has helped thousands open to their intuition, transform their values into action, and answer their true calling… instead of settling for yet another job. In the last few years, Rick’s work has centered around the art and science of manifestation (as offered in his book and workshop, The Alchemy of Abundance). Similar to his work in career and vocation, these teachings transcend the overly simplistic approach made popular by the movie, “The Secret” and other get-what-you-want philosophies. They dive deeper - into the alchemical possibilities of loving what is, recognizing your greater purpose and moving towards your own healed vision, on both an individual and a cultural level. Every year, Rick travels the world to teach workshops on The Alchemy of Abundance, Creating the Work You Love, and other special focus seminars. But his home base is Poughkeepsie, New York, where he works as an Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Vassar College. A former Mellon Fellow in the Humanities at Columbia University, and chair of the Carolyn Grant ’36 Endowment Committee on embodied learning and the mythic imagination, Rick has a rich background in the world of academia, as well as years of personal, in-depth study in eastern and western spiritual traditions, mythology, astrology and shamanism.
As the Founder and Director of Teaching Empathy Inc., David Levine has been teaching, inspiring, and motivating teachers to re-discover the joy they once felt when they entered the teaching profession. The daily stressors that teachers feel and the frustration they live with many days of the school year will not change unless they take action to change how they respond to the new reality of school reform. It is imperative for all educators (teachers, administrators and support personnel), to embrace the potential to teach pro-social skills while building a classroom community where bullying is minimized within the systems changes being implemented. Educators do not want or need a new curriculum or complicated program, but instead are looking for a new consciousness of how to create caring and compassionate schools. It is time to return to the passion teachers once felt when they went into the educational field by reframing what they do every day (making a difference in the lives of their students), and how they do it (by creating caring and compassionate classrooms and schools). David ‘s work on teaching empathy as a bully prevention strategy has been featured in the New York Times, National Public Radio, and WABC news in New York City. David’s books include Teaching Empathy, Building Classroom Communities and The School of Belonging Plan Book. His recordings include Dance of a Child's Dreams (Parent's Choice Gold Award Winner), and the Bully Tapes. After teaching elementary and middle school, he served as chief trainer for the U.S. Department of Education’s Northeast Regional Center for Safe and Drug-Free Schools. Today, David designs, facilitates, and presents workshops and professional development experiences nationally to teachers, administrators, and students.
