Karyn Calabrese declares "she is not special". Yet it is undeniable, she has a special gift. She has learned to listen to the knowledge innate within herself and become a leading holistic healer and teacher. Many people look at Karyn at 67 and assume she inherited a strong matriarchy. The facts are, however, that both her mother and grandmother died at ages younger than Karyn is now. With this seeming fate at hand, she sets out to prove her genetic heredity wrong. This is where her story begins. Alone with two children to raise, she bought her first wheatgrass juicer and opened a new life of growth and prosperity with her first business, growing and distributing wheatgrass. More importantly this began her life-long exploration into the inter-connectedness between food and body and the ultimate attainment of self-insurance and inner peace. Karyn had been a vegetarian for 12 years, but this was merely a first step leading towards a completely raw food diet. No doubt this is a tough life to come to. It is out of the "norm" and denies what we have so long held as "truths". To make this more feasible, Karyn opened her raw-foods restaurant, Karyn's Fresh Corner, which was a thriving success. Although mostly self taught, Karyn had many mentors along the way. It was through these interactions that Karyn found the next important step in her path. She believes it is not enough to simply eat live foods but to cleanse the body of the strong, negative, anti-life foods still in the body. Today, Karyn teaches detoxification classes through the year to give these lessons to others. To facilitate this process of cleansing, she opened a holistic therapy center, Karyn's Inner Beauty Center. This is where we find Karyn today. A 67 year old woman and "Raw Foodist of the Year" who lives the full, lively life she envisioned giving herself. She is working on a book that gives the voice to the positive experiences of the people she has helped along their own journeys. And this is what, contrary to what she declares, does indeed make her special. She has created an all-encompassing environment of food, health, guidance and care where we can all participate in our own well being. For as Karyn herself questions at the end of every day: "If you don't take care of this, the most magnificent machine you'll ever be given, where are you going to live?"

Hello Wellness Universe Members and Friends! I moved to central NJ in September 2016 from Staten Island, NY and I love it here! My formal background is I have an A.S. in Biology and B.S. in Health Services Administration. I worked in the healthcare field as an Accounts Receivable Manager for 16 years. Once I realized that I would always work for the other person unless I did something about it, I looked for ways to put my passion into helping others. My passion in life is helping others. I love children and animals and try to find ways to help in stopping their abuse that sadly goes on today. Since I know the pain of infertility, I am on a mission to help other women who are going through this or have gone through it. I am a vegetarian for over 25 years and try my hardest to eat vegan at home. It is because of my love for animals that I became a vegetarian. I like to read, dance and be silly at times and spend time meeting other like-minded people. I am married to my best friend, Dave, for 12 years. I have great faith and thank God for all His blessings. My husband, @DaveWhitmore, inspired me to finally do something about my weight and stick with it. He is a type 2 diabetic and was on Metformin, when the doctor wanted to added another medication that would have destroyed his liver. He had enough and finally starting to do something about it. He joined My Fitness Pal, turned walking into running and he lost a total of 60 lbs and went down four pant sizes! The best? He was able to get off his medication! For me, I have been overweight since my teenage years. I tried everything - going to the gym, Weight Watchers, Medifast, etc. It worked while I was on it, but then the weight would slowly creep back up. Watching Dave, inspired me. Two years ago, at the age of 47, I finally had enough. I joined my husband on our new lifelong health journey! I also joined My Fitness Pal, we joined a gym and with proper vitamins and supplements and healthy food choices, I lost a total of 75 lbs and went down five pant sizes!! (Before and After photos: www.4pathstowellness.com) Sure, it was a lot of determination and will power and sticking to watching what I ate and working out, but I did it! We both know the struggles of losing weight. It really rests with the most important muscle, your brain. We have the tools to show people how a positive mindset can get great results. We offer group and individual Mindset/Wellness Coaching. For more information: www.4pathstowellness.com/Coaching Program We are also partnered with Melaleuca, the largest online wellness store.
